Fast

I’ve always dabbled in poetry and creative writing.  Expression through written word has been encouraged by my mentors, so I explore it here and there.  I have never actually published anything of mine until this moment, so please excuse it’s amateur nature.

Fast

A heart beats,

Floods,

Aches,

Drowns,

And fights.

A brain thinks,

Delves,

Grasps,

Falters,

And melds.

The Body, craving to feel by

Clinging to inflicted pain that should perhaps be cast

Reaching for memories that have long since passed

Creating the happiest moments that we’d wish’d had last

Flooding, aching, drowning, and fighting to live

Delving, grasping, faltering, and melding the images

This life we live, we live too fast.

The Body, craving to grow by

Spending time under the sun’s thick cover

Stretching out towards the rain

Running barefoot to explore all over

Flooding, aching, drowning, and fighting to live

Delving, grasping, faltering, and melding the images

This life we live, we live with one another.

The Body, craving to know by

Walking a distance to let words become stories; and just a little further for mutual confirmation

Asking for coffee to accompany lengthy and intimate midnight conversation

Writing alone in textbooks. Each page, a gaping hole in need of actualization

Each line a streak-free pane

These words are your reflection

Your flooding, your aching, your drowning, and your fighting

Your delving, your grasping, your faltering, and your melding

Your life and your image

It’s all too fast to do the things that we wish

While also getting to know ourselves.

Set up a dinner date for one

Clean your room because you’re going to spend time with yourself

Find yourself and tell yourself you love you

Feel, grow, and learn your identity

A pianist once asked me listen to what he had wrote

I sat and heard him

The human inside the body; the heart and the brain

The life we live, we live ourselves.
